Lucknow, Tributes were paid here on Monday to former chief minister Chandra Shekhar on his death anniversary.

Chandra Shekhar was born on April 17, 1927 in Ballia and died on July 8, 2007.

Paying tributes to former Prime Minister, former UP Minister and patron of Loktantra Senani Kalyan Samiti Yashwant Singh, he said the history of Indian democracy cannot be complete without him.

In a statement issued here, addressing the memorial gathering organized at 'Chandra Shekhar Chabutraa' on the 17th death anniversary of the former Prime Minister, Singh said: "Those who believe in democracy should read Chandra Shekhar properly and absorb his thoughts In their lifes. "

Recalling the period 1974-75, Singh said, "There were great leaders in the Congress and they did not agree with Indira Gandhi's policies. They even resigned from the Congress after the elections were announced in 1977, but they did not dare to do so. oppose it in 1974-75."

The memorial meeting was chaired by Dhirendra Nath Srivastava, convener of Loktantra Senani Kalyan Samiti, Uttar Pradesh.

MPs Bechai Saroj and Sudhakar Singh, former MP Kuber Bhandari, social activist Jagdish Rai and many other prominent people paid tributes to Chandra Shekhar.

Several programs were organized in his hometown Ballia to commemorate his death anniversary.

At a program organized under the leadership of Chandra Shekhar's grandson and UP Legislative Council member Ravi Shankar Singh Pappu at Ballia's Chandra Shekhar Udyan, a large number of people paid tribute to the former chief minister.

Tributes were also paid to Chandra Shekhar at his ancestral residence in Ibrahimpatti. On this occasion, Chandra Shekhar's nephew Jai Prakash Singh said that the country was burning when he took over as Prime Minister but he took many difficult decisions in national interest.

A seminar on 'Value Centered Politics and Chandra Shekhar ji' was organized at Jananayak Chandrashekhar University, Ballia along with tree plantation in the campus and affiliated colleges.
