The death of Karnataka Maharishi Valmiki Scheduled Tribe Development Corporation (KMVSTDC) superintendent Chandrasekaran P (50), who died allegedly by suicide on May 26, has come after he accused senior officials of pressurizing him to help in misappropriation of funds. A note was left behind, which has created a controversy. Political turmoil in Karnataka.

The Congress government has come under pressure after allegations of transferring huge funds to some private accounts to spend in the Lok Sabha elections in Telangana and other parts of the country.

The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has now started investigating the case.

Speaking to reporters at the state Congress headquarters here, Shivakumar said, "The Home Minister and I discussed with Nagendra. He is not involved in the scam and hence there is no need for him to resign.However, he has offered to resign. "To maintain the dignity of the party and the state government, he can announce his resignation today."

Asked whether the resignation would be accepted, the state Congress chief said Chief Minister Siddaramaiah would take a decision after discussing the matter with the party high command.

The alleged scam in KMVSTDC came to light after the suicide of Chandrasekaran (50), who was allegedly pressured to transfer huge sums of money to various illegal accounts.

In his suicide note, he detailed how a sitting cabinet minister of the department had put pressure on him.Karnataka BJP had earlier set June 6 as the deadline to remove Nagendra from the cabinet. BJP also took out a protest march on Thursday demanding the dismissal of the minister.

A memorandum submitted by the BJP to the Governor said: “Ever since the Congress took over the state government in May-June 2023, our state has become a breeding ground for corruption and illegal money-laundering activities involving the public exchequer.

“Now, a major scam involving Rs 87 crore and additional funds has come to light in the Karnataka Maharishi Valmiki Scheduled Tribe Development Board under the Ministry of Tribal Welfare of Karnataka."
