The Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) met representatives of the Reserve Bank of India (RBI), Securities and Exchange Board of India (SEBI), Insurance Regulatory and Development Authority of India (IRDAI), and other financial institutions and all. Once the 160 mobile series is implemented, it will help in easy identification of the calling entity.

The Communications Ministry said the meeting provided a platform for exchange of views among regulators, entities and telecom service providers regarding effective utilization of this series.

The ministry said operations of the 140 series, currently being used for promotional purposes, are being transferred to the distributed ledger technology (DLT) platform and digital consent scrubbing is also being operationalised.

"With the implementation of the above two measures, adequate control over spam calls from 10-digit numbers is expected," the ministry said.

In the meeting, regulators, banks and other financial institutions stressed the need to work collaboratively to prevent the menace of spam especially through voice calls and extend all cooperation for implementation of various initiatives by TRAI in a time bound manner. Gave assurance.
