An ED lawyer said the central agency sleuths have discovered that out of the Rs 10,000 crore, Rs 1,000 crore was routed through corporate entities and rice-mills owned by businessman Bakibur Rehman, arrested in the case.

Rehman, who was the confidant of former West Bengal minister Jyotipriya Mallick, was the first person arrested by the ED official last year in the ration distribution case.

With regard to the remaining Rs 9,000 crore, the ED told the court that its officials are currently in the process of "connecting the dots" with regard to other corporate entities or channels through which the money was sent.

On Thursday, former minister Mallik had approached the Calcutta High Court with a bail plea.

However, the ED opposed the bail plea filed on medical grounds.

Meanwhile, the ED counsel sought some time from a single-judge bench of Justice Suvra Ghosh to present his arguments in the case.

Justice Ghosh had approved the plea of the ED lawyer and given him four days time to prepare arguments in his favor.

This matter will be heard again on June 25.
