Port Blair, Principal Secretary to the Prime Minister Pramod Kumar Mishra and Union Home Secretary Ajay Kumar Bhalla on Friday visited Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose Island (formerly known as Ross Island) and experienced the light and sound show.

The island, which was the base of the British administrator for the Pena Colony in Port Blair, is a 30-minute boat trip from Port Blair.

He was also accompanied by Joint Secretary (Union Territory Division) Ashutosh Agnihotri, Punya Salila Srivastava and Hari Ranjan Rao, both additional secretaries to the PM, and DGP Devesh Chandra Srivastava.

During their visit, they explored sites like the Japanese Bunke (built during World War II) and the Memorial Museum, which was established by the Indian Navy in 1993.

A senior administrative officer of Andaman and Nicobar Islands Integrated Development Corporation Limited (ANIIDCO) briefed him about the proposed development of a national memorial in memory of Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose.Later, he returned to the Raj Niwas in Port Blair, where Chief Secretary Kesha Chandra gave him a presentation on various ongoing development projects in the Andaman and Nicobar Islands.

On Thursday he met representatives of the Shompen tribe (an especially vulnerable tribal group) in Great Nicobar and learned about their history, tradition and culture.

He watched a documentary on PVTG and later visited the Watchtower (about 14 km from Campbell Bay), explored the beaches, defense and coast guard areas to gain an understanding of the area where Nicobar Islands worth Rs 75,000 crore were spent. The bay was captured. The project will start.

Additionally, he reviewed the preliminary master plan draft for the Great Nicobar Islands project, which includes an international container trans-shipment terminal airport, power plant and a green-field township at Campbell Bay.
