A Tamil Nadu forest department official told IANS that the department has requested the public to support the initiative to fill the reservoirs.

The official said the department has requested people to donate for the project during special occasions at their homes, including birthdays and wedding anniversaries.

There are 70 reservoirs and several check dams in the Hosur forest area, but these dry up during summer. However, these ponds and check dams get filled during monsoon.

A water tank can hold up to 10,000 liters of water and two tankers with a capacity of 5,000 liters are required to fill each tank. The official said that the price of a tanker of water is Rs 1,500.

Many social organizations and NGOs have started supporting the Hosur Forest Range initiative.

An NGO that did not want to be named has donated Rs 30,000 to fill the water tank.

Speaking to IANS, KM Selvaraj, a farmer from Krishnagiri, said, "This is a good initiative by the state forest department. More than seven people have died in wild elephant attacks in this area. The wild animals come to the village in the water. Live." In search of food and we should hope that this initiative will reduce human-animal conflict.
