New Delhi, Trinamool Congress (TMC) leader Sushmita Dev on Monday slammed the BJP over the alleged sex scandal involving JD(S) Hassan MP Prajwal Revanna and criticized the BJP for supporting the accused.

In a video statement released after a letter written by BJP leader Devraj Goud to the Karnataka BJP president regarding a pen drive with purported videos surfaced, Dev accused the BJP of hypocrisy.

He said the scandal that has emerged "goes all the way to the top".

"The national media has just revealed that the Revanna sex scandal of Bharatiya Janata Party ally JD(S) MP in Karnataka runs very deep indeed. In fact, it goes all the way to the top."Former BJP candidate Devaraj Gowda says that he had brought the entire matter to the notice of Home Minister Amit Shah and Prime Minister (Narendra Modi)," Dev said.

But, he said, no attention was paid to the issue. She stressed that BJP leaders, who make women's safety a big issue in Bengal and the rest of the country, should hang their heads in shame.

He said that BJP is also fully involved in the kind of sexual exploitation that has come to light.

He said, “BJP has forgiven him a lot by giving him the ticket.And the BJP's blatant hypocrisy on gender justice and respect for women has been exposed. Bharatiya Janata Party, you should be ashamed."

Congress media and publicity department head Pawan Khera shared on Twitter a letter written by Devaraj Gowda to the Karnataka BJP president on December 8 last year.

He said the letter revealed the existence of a pen drive filled with "obscene videos of Prajwal Revanna".

In recent times, several sex videos purportedly showing Revanna with multiple women have been going viral.He is the grandson of JD(S) patron former prime minister HD Deve Gowda and the NDA candidate from Hassan Lok Sabha constituency, where voting was held on April 26.

According to police sources, Revanna has fled the country. The Karnataka government has announced a special investigation team to probe the "obscene video case".
