Kolkata: People of southern West Bengal are likely to get respite from the scorching heat as the weather department has predicted thunderstorm due to the formation of a cyclonic circulation over northern Bangladesh on Saturday.

Heat wave conditions persist in many districts of the region, with Panagarh recording the highest temperature in the state at 41.7 degrees Celsius, followed by Bankura at 41.5 degrees Celsius, the weather office said.

A cyclonic circulation formed over northern Bangladesh and entry of strong moisture from the Bay of Bengal has predicted thunderstorms with lightning and gusty winds over the region till Monday and over northern West Bengal till Wednesday.

The forecast said that southern West Bengal, which has seen a continuous rise in day temperatures in the last one week, may see a drop of three to four degrees in mercury levels, which is expected to provide relief to the people of the region. Is. sweltering heat.

The temperature in Kolkata was recorded at 38.3 degrees Celsius, while in Asansol, Purulia and Barrackpore the temperature crossed 40 degrees.
