New Delhi, Delhi Police has re-arrested a 53-year-old murder convict, who was absconding for more than three years after being released on emergency parole. The officer gave this information on Monday.

He said that the police arrested the absconding woman Ruby Begum from her daughter's house here.

Ruby Begum, along with her husband, had robbed and murdered her boss two years ago. Police said the couple was convicted in the case and sentenced to life imprisonment by the court.

However, Begum fled to Assam after being released on emergency parole for weeks, which was extended from time to time during the Covid-19 pandemic, it was said

"The incident occurred on July 17, 2010, when a PCR call was received, where the complainant informed that her mother-in-law was found dead in her room. She had suffered sharp injuries on her neck," said Deputy Commissioner of Police (Crime) Amit Goyal.

Investigation revealed that the maid who worked in the house was missing since the incident two days ago. He told that cash and jewelery were also found missing from the house.

Further investigation led police to identify Begum and her husband Rakesh Mishra as suspects, who were arrested on July 20, 2016, and sentenced to life imprisonment, the DCP said.

On March 27, 2020, Begum was released on emergency parole for weeks, police said. Parole which was extended due to the pandemic situation.

“She was supposed to surrender in jail on February 20, 2021, but failed to do so and escaped.

The team formed to nab her found that she was in touch with her daughter. The DCP said that based on a tip-off, the police reached the house of Begum's daughter here on Sunday and arrested the culprit again. She told that her husband is in jail since 2016.
