New Delhi: Three restaurants, two shops and a flat were gutted in a fire that broke out in Shaheen Bagh area of south-east Delhi on Saturday. The officers provided this information.

Delhi Fire Service (DFS) officials said there were no casualties in the incident.

Officials said they received a call at 5.44 pm informing them that electrical wires had caught fire outside a restaurant on 40 Foot Road in Shaheen Bagh.

Riyaz, a member of the Shaheen Bagh Resident Welfare Association, said he informed the local police immediately after the fire broke out in the restaurant. He said that by the time fire brigade vehicles reached the spot, it had spread to the restaurant. About 18 fire tenders were pressed into service and it took one and a half hour to control the fire.

Riyaz further told the media, "The station house officer arrived within five minutes but the fire engines arrived late. Two flats also caught fire but thankfully no one was injured in the incident."

A police officer said that there is a possibility of fire due to short circuit in the electrical wires outside Zaika restaurant.

But the intensity of the fire was so high that it soon spread to the restaurant and its neighboring restaurants and shops.Since the lanes were narrow, it took time for DFS vehicles to reach the spot, he said.

Several videos of the incident surfaced on social media, showing buildings engulfed in high flames and locals running for safety.

DFS station officer Praveen Kumar said that there was no LGP cylinder explosion or any other incident, otherwise the damage could have been greater. Now the fire has been completely extinguished.
