New Delhi: Three people allegedly involved in 100 cases of theft and burglary in Delhi, Uttar Pradesh and Rajasthan were arrested here, officials said on Monday.

Additional Deputy Commissioner of Police (North) said the gang's mastermind, Zahid Ali (45), was arrested from Narela, where a police team led by Inspector Ram Manohar had spent several nights hiding after receiving information about him last week. Sudhanshu Verma said.

ADCP Verma said that on the behest of Ali, another accused Azad (27) was also caught from the same area, while Abhishek (24) was lodged in Dasna jail of Uttar Pradesh in a theft case.

He said the trio were allegedly involved in the theft of Rs 3 lakh in broad daylight at a house in North Delhi's Sabzi Mandi area on May 6.

"They would steal the scooters from different localities and then abandon them after each theft. Azad and Abhishek would go to the targeted house or shop on the scooter and Ali would follow them in a car with police sirens and beacon lights on. dashboard, so that he could save the other two, acting as Delhi Police officers, when caught by the public,” Verma said.

Ali had also arranged for the uniform of a Delhi Police Inspector for this purpose, he said.

Officials said the accused used to carry several lock picking tools with them and would reconnoitre a house or shop before targeting it.

He said that Delhi Police has also detained Abhishek for further questioning.
