Gadchiroli, Two women Naxalites and a mass militia commander, involved in several violent attacks on security forces and collectively carrying a bounty of Rs 5 lakh, were arrested in Maharashtra's Gadchiroli district on Sunday. An officer gave this information.

These arrests have taken place before the Lok Sabha elections. Gadchiroli is part of the Vidarbha region of the state, where ten seats will go to polls in the first two phases on April 19 and April 26.

According to a release from Gadchiroli Superintendent of Police Neelotpal, there were inputs that two female Naxalites Kajal alias Sindhu Gawde (28) and Geeta alias Sukali Korcha (31) were keeping an eye on the activities of the security forces in the district.

A team of the state police, comprising its elite anti-Naxal force C-60 and Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) personnel, arrested the two from the limits of Pipli Burgi police station near the Maharashtra-Chhattisgarh border, I said.

The release said Kajal and Geeta were involved in an ambush in the Koparshi-Poyarkoti forest area in 2020, in which an office and C-60 personnel lost their lives.

There was a reward of Rs 2 lakh each on both the women Naxalites.

The Maoist mass militia commander, identified as Pisa Pandu Narote, was involved in the killing of a policeman Patil last year. Narote, carrying a reward of Rs 1.5 lakh, was arrested from Gilanguda forest of Sai Nilotpal district.

Naxalites launch their Tactical Counter Offensive Campaign (TCOC) every summer between March and June and intensify their activities. During this period, many attacks have been carried out on security forces.

According to Neelotpal, Gadchiroli Police has arrested 77 hardcore Naxalites since January 22.
