Samastipur (Bihar) [India]: Three children from Jagatsinghpur village in Bihar died after drowning in the Budhi Gandak river, officials said.

Five children initially drowned, but locals managed to save two of them.

The bodies of the three children were recovered by SDRF soldiers and local divers and brought to Samastipur for postmortem.

Three of the victims, two 12-year-old boys and a 10-year-old boy, were local residents who had gone to bathe in the river.

Santosh Kumar, a resident of the village, said, "Three children of Jagatsinghpur village had gone to bathe in the Budhi Gandak river. Two boys are 12 years old and one is 10 years old."

"Around 3 o'clock I got information that eight-nine people had gone to take a bath. Five of these children drowned, two of them were saved by the local people, while two died due to drowning. After some time we reached, then "Local divers arrived and fished out the body, which was taken to Samastipur for postmortem," said Sanjay Kumar, SHO of SDRF Karpuri village police station.
