Shimla: Opposition leader Jai Ram Thakur on Wednesday claimed that three Congress leaders are in line to replace Himachal Pradesh Chief Minister Sukhwinder Singh Sukhu after the Lok Sabha elections.

Speaking to reporters in Solan, he said that despite having majority in the Himachal Pradesh Assembly, the defeat of the Congress candidate in the Rajya Sabha elections shows that people do not have faith in the leadership of the Chief Minister and there is a possibility of a change in the government.

The senior BJP leader claimed that the leadership of the ruling party in Himachal Pradesh, which visited the state after the Rajya Sabha elections, has commented that the Chief Minister has failed to manage things in the state and there should be discussions on a new name.

However, since Lok Sabha elections were round the corner, Congress leaders have been asked to wait, he said, adding that party leaders are hopeful that Sukh will be removed and he will get a chance.

In a surprise upset for the ruling Congress in Himachal Pradesh, the BJP won the state's lone Rajya Sabha seat with its candidate Harsh Mahajan defeating Congress veteran Abhishek Manu Singhvi.Nine MLAs – six Congress rebels and three independents – voted in favor of the BJP candidate. The Congress rebels were disqualified by the Speaker for violating the whip of being present in the Assembly during cut motions and budget and voting in favor of the government. All nine MLAs joined the BJP late and Congress rebels were fielded by the saffron party from their respective constituencies for the bypolls.

Former chief minister Thakur claimed that Sukhu was responsible for the current situation in the state and he should stop blaming the BJP.

The BJP leader said that Himachal Pradesh Congress chief and sitting MP from Mandi Pratibha Singh said that party workers are demoralized. On BJP's Mandi Lok Sabha seat candidate Kangana Ranaut's comment that she has not eaten beef, Thakur said once she has said so, the matter ends there.

He said, "Has anyone seen Kangana eating beef? If this issue is raised again and again, we will file a complaint with the Election Commission."

Himachal Pradesh BJP chief Rajeev Bindal said that the only aim of the Congress is to remove Prime Minister Narendra Modi from power. He said, on the other hand, PM Modi's sole focus is on the development of the country.

Bindal and Thakur expressed confidence that the party would emerge victorious on all four Lok Sabha seats in the state and help it achieve the target of winning 40 parliamentary seats in the general elections.Earlier, addressing a meeting organized by the BJP Shimla Parliamentary Constituency Election Management Committee in Solan, the leaders encouraged the party workers to work hard in the elections.

Party's Himachal Pradesh unit spokesperson Vivek Sharma said the workers will ensure a big victory for the BJP candidates by helping them secure 370 more votes at each booth compared to the 2019 elections.

BJP candidate from Shimla, Suresh Kashyap, also addressed the meeting and gave an account of the work done in his constituency in the last five years.
