Jammu, Jammu and Kashmir Police on Friday claimed to have busted a three-member gang that was involved in throwing a mobile phone, a SIM card and a charger using a cork ball inside the jail premises for the use of prisoners here. .

A police spokesperson said the ball was found in the premises of Amphala jail Jammu during a routine search on April 2, from which China-made mobile phones and other items were recovered.

He said that the main accused Vikas Singh of Bhagatpur was arrested on Thursday, Mohammad Akhil Wani of Belicharana was the first to be arrested in the case, followed by the second accused Harsh Singh of Vikram Chowk a few days ago.

The arrest was made after registering a case under relevant sections of the Prison Act at police station Pakka Danga and forming a special investigation team, the spokesperson said.

He said the team activated human intelligence and collected all the technical data, which led to the arrest of Wani, who revealed that he had provided the SIM card to Harsh Singh.

The spokesperson said Singh was later arrested and during interrogation revealed that he along with Vikas alias Raja of Bhagatpur had thrown a ball containing the stuff inside the jail premises while riding on a motorcycle to help a state prisoner.

The spokesperson said Vikas has been arrested and the motorcycle used in the crime has also been seized. Further investigation is ongoing.
