Electricity was brought to the village after almost 75 years of independence and the locals used to stay awake all night to enjoy this feeling.

This month, Srishti Jaiswal bought a cooler for her family and her cousin Vipu plans to buy a fridge this summer.

“It is the Modi-Yogi government that has literally brightened our lives. “We appealed to politicians for decades to provide electricity to the village, but no one responded,” says Vipul.

Tulai Ka Nagla is a small village in Etah district of Uttar Pradesh.I remained dark, desolate and forgotten for decades.

“For us, independence will come in 2022 when we get electricity. Now we have the freedom to live our lives and adjust to the rest of the world,” says Payal, a Class 9 student, who spent her formative years studying and living with her uncle in Agra.

He further added, “We were afraid of sunset for years because it meant darkness all around. But now the sun never sets here.,

Local MLA Satyapal Singh Rathod says, "It was unfortunate that this village remained in darkness for so long. Somehow, this place was left out from the electricity department's survey for electrification in rural areas. When I heard about the villagers got to know." Due to the plight, I proposed to use my MLA-LAD funds to develop the infrastructure required for regular power supply.

Local people remember how they managed without electricity.“We had to go to neighboring villages to charge our mobile phones and local shopkeepers took advantage of the situation and started charging money for this facility. Many families shifted their children to their relatives' homes so that they could continue their studies. The situation was even worse during the pandemic when movement was banned,” recalls Awadhesh Bihari.

Local residents were also cut off from the rest of the world because no one had a television.

Medical facilities also collapsed due to lack of electricity.Bihari remembers thanking the then UP power minister Shrikant Sharma, who also took note of the problem and directed officials to ensure electricity in the village.

A dedicated transformer of 63 KVA capacity and 22 power transmission poles were installed.

For electrification, a 350 meter long power supply line was laid.

A local electricity department official said, “When electricity reached this village, for the first time I realized what electricity means to us. We take things for granted but the happiness expressed by the people of this village made me realize the importance of certain things.People did not sleep for two-three nights because they wanted to stay awake and experience life with electricity.
