According to him, the understanding is that while the BJP will shift its dedicated votes in favor of CPI(M) candidate Dr Suja Chakraborty from Dum Dum, the Left party will shift its dedicated votes in favor of her in the 2026 assembly elections. Saffron candidates in seven assembly constituencies under Dumdum.

The Chief Minister made this explosive claim while addressing a rally in support of party candidate Sayoni Ghosh at Baruipur under Jadavpur Lok Sabha constituency in South 24 Parganas district.

However, Sujan Chakraborty rejected the Chief Minister's claims and questioned why he did not make such claims while campaigning in Dumdum and why he chose Jadavpur for this.

“The Chief Minister should remember that the BJP could not open its account in West Bengal during the previous Left Front rule in the state. Lotus flourished in the state only during the Trinamool Congress rule,” Chakraborty said.

State BJP spokesperson in West Bengal and party's Rajya Sabha MP Sami Bhattacharya also ridiculed the claims.

"The chief minister is making such claims at the last moment, understanding that the party's defeat in Dumdum this time is inevitable," Bhattacharya said.
