New Delhi, Congress on Monday said Prime Minister Narendra Modi had nothing new to offer in his remarks before the start of the 18th. Lok Sabha appealed and "as usual, resorted to deviation."

Congress general secretary Jairam Ramesh also said the prime minister has shown no evidence that he understood the true meaning of the people's verdict "which saw him winning only a narrow and dubious victory in Varanasi".

"The non-biological Prime Minister who suffered a resounding personal, political and moral defeat in the Lok Sabha elections has just uttered his customary 'desh ke naam sandesh' outside Parliament as the 18th Lok Sabha prepares to begin its term... He has said nothing new and as usual resorted to distraction...,” Ramesh said in a post on X.

"Let there be no doubt: INDIA's Janbandhan will hold him accountable for every minute. He is brutally exposed," Ramesh added.

He published another post about the opposition's stance versus the prime minister's.

"The non-biological prime minister tells the opposition: substance, not slogans."

"INDIA is telling you: consensus, not confrontation. The non-biological prime minister is telling the opposition: discussion, not interruption. INDIA is telling you: assistance, not absence," he added.

In his usual remarks before the start of the 18th Lok Sabha, Modi said that India needs a responsible opposition as people want substance, not slogans. He said people want debate, diligence and not riots in Parliament.

Modi said people expect good steps from the opposition but it has been disappointing so far and expressed hope that it will play its role and maintain the decorum of democracy.

Taking a swipe at the Congress without naming it, he said the Emergency anniversary falls on June 25 and termed it as a black mark in India's parliamentary history when the Constitution was scrapped and the country became a prison.
