Amaravati: The weather department has predicted rain with lightning and strong winds in parts of Andhra Pradesh on election day (May 13) on Sunday.

It has predicted squall and gusty winds reaching up to 50 kmph (kmh) in parts of North Coastal Andhra Pradesh (NCAP), Yanam, South Coastal Andhra Pradesh (SCAP) and Rayalaseema.

Similar weather has been predicted for the next three days from May 14.

"A cyclonic circulation lies over South Interior Karnataka and adjoining areas up to 1.5 km above mean sea level," the weather department said in a release.

Moreover, it was observed that lower tropospheric southerly and south-westerly winds are blowing over Andhra Pradesh and Yanam.

Midsummer rains turned cool in Vijayawada, Undavalli, Tadepalli and other nearby places today.

According to the Meteorological Department, Amravati received 15 mm of rain today.
