New Delhi, The second edition of JLF Valladolid will be held in the Spanish City with the participation of writers and speakers from various fields, including Nobel laureate Abhijit Banerjee, Pulitzer winner Roger Cohen, journalist Christina Lamb and authors Vikas Swarup and Tishani Doshi.

The literary festival, organized by Teamwork Arts in collaboration with Casa de l'India, will be held from 13-16 June in Valladolid, the de facto capital of the autonomous community of Castile and León.

Announcing the 2024 edition of the festival, Spanish Ambassador to India Jose Maria Ridao said it is an opportunity to "enhance mutual understanding through the universal language of art and literature".

“As we prepare to host the second edition of JLF Valladolid in Spain, we are reminded of the deep cultural ties that connect Spain and India. It gives an opportunity to include more Indian voices in Spain and more Spanish voices in India,” Ridao said.The festival will explore a wide range of subjects including literature, history, politics, cuisine and technology.

The event will begin with a session in which author and journalist Kristin Lamb, author Vikas Swarup and author-journalist Roger Cohen will discuss global tensions and historical legacies in search of a path to peace.

In another session, Swarup and Peruvian writer Santiago Roncagliolo will consider the interplay between their personal histories and written works, examining how their stories influence and blur the lines of reality.

The festival will also feature a session where an eminent panel of writers and translators including José Francisco Ruiz Casanova, Paulo Lemos Horta, Oscar Pujol will come together to evaluate the pros and cons of AI, a technology that is redefining originality. Festival co-director and historian William Dalrymple will present a session titled 'The Civilization of Mughal India' with Enrique Gavilan, Professor of Medieval History at the University of Valladolid.

Award-winning filmmaker Shekhar Kapur will discuss the intricacies of compelling visual storytelling in 'Shekhar Kapur: A Life in Films'.Speaking about the upcoming festival, TeamWar Arts Managing Director Sanjay K Roy said it is a step towards "bringing the rich tapestry of literary and cultural dialogue to a global audience."

“Based on the historical backdrop of Valladolid, the festival provides a platform for in-depth exploration and exchange, connecting diverse subjects from literature and politics to gastronomy and technology,” Roy said.

The festival will also host a session featuring cultural critic-author Kristin Guirao, festival co-director and author Namita Gokhale, Christina Lamb, and Tishani Doshi on the evolving landscape of feminist theory and the representation of women in literature and society. Will discuss.

Economist Abhijit Banerjee will share his nostalgia through the intersection of food, culture and economics with France-based painter Cheyenne Oliver in a session titled 'Cooking Tea Saves Your Life'.

Apart from sessions about books and ideas, workshops on music, dance and yoga led by Indian and Spanish artists will also be held as part of the festival.
