Jaipur (Rajasthan) [India], A doctor has been arrested for surgically removing a patient's wrong kidney instead of his damaged one in Rajasthan's Jhunjhunu last month, police said.

Police said that the victim, Eid Bano of Nua in Jhunjhunu district of Rajasthan, had filed a case against Dr. Sanjay Dhankhar.

He told that Dr. Dhankhar, who was trying to escape, was arrested from Gujarat.

Nua resident Eid Bano had complained against Dr. Sanjay Dhankhar for negligence in treatment and removal of his right kidney. After this, a team of five doctors investigated the complaint and it was proved that Dr. Dhankhar was negligent in the treatment. Jhunjhunu Superintendent of Police Dr. Dhankhar Rajarshi Raj Verma said, "After the surgery, patient Eid Bano's health deteriorated and she was hurriedly referred to another hospital."

Verma said that the case of medical negligence came to light when doctors in Jaipur informed Eid Bano about the incident after investigation. After this the case attracted media attention and investigation was started. The police registered an FIR in the matter and when the hospital was searched, many suspicious materials were seized from there. The police have found evidence which shows that the documents and stamps of the doctors have been tampered with.

The SP said, "This proves that Dr. Dhankhar was not only negligent in treatment. He also committed fraud and prepared fake documents."

The police had earlier registered this case under sections 337 and 338 of the Indian Penal Code. But later sections 420, 465 and 473 of the Indian Penal Code were added to it.

Verma said, “Now Dr. Dhankhar will be produced in the court. He will be brought on police remand. The SP said that investigation would also be conducted to find out the missing kidney.

He said, "If kidney biowaste and organs are not disposed of or preserved as per rules, then these sections will also be added. Apart from this, the section of deliberately endangering life can also be added."

In the press release issued by the police, it has been said that Dr. Dhankhar has a criminal record and two previous cases have been registered against him. The previous case against Dr Dhankhar was registered in 2015 and 2016 under section 304A of the Indian Penal Code.
