The director, who is known for his works 'Nakkash' and 'Alif', shared that choosing a real police officer to make a different film feels right.

On casting 2010 batch IPS officer Simala Prasad, Zaigum said, "It was pure kismet. We didn't plan it that way. Initially, we considered many names and even did screen tests. When ​When the name of IPS Simala Prasad came up, we had to think deeply because the script required a particular kind of seriousness, authenticity was not required for our character.,

"It felt perfect to cast a real police officer to make a different film. The team believed that a real officer could address many of the small details that are usually missing in typical Mumbai masala films The biggest reason for casting IPS Simala Prasad was because of no creative differences,” he shared.Giving more details about the film, Jaigham said that he has always been interested in policing, especially crime policing.

"It's a completely new genre for me, but my experience as a journalist allowed me to see the police department up close. The film is a departure from the usual police dramas, aiming to explore police life, family dynamics and the reality of is a raw, true depiction of what's behind the badge," he said.

The director concluded: "Our extensive research includes real-life incidents, and the film will show the lives of policemen in small-town colonies.We chose Narmadapuram in Madhya Pradesh for shooting as it captured the essence of the story perfectly. This film is the culmination of extensive research, location scouting, and a desire to tell a different kind of police story."

Shot in Madhya Pradesh, 'The Narmada Story' also stars Raghubir Yadav, Mukesh Tiwari, Anjali Patil, Zarina Wahab and Ashwini Kalsekar in lead roles.

Meanwhile, IPS Simala has been a part of Zaigum's projects 'Nakkash' and 'Alif'.
