Official sources had said on Thursday that the Ministry of External Affairs was acting on the Karnataka government's request to cancel Prajwal's diplomatic passport. Currently, I believe he is in Germany.

It is learned that the Ministry of External Affairs is initiating the process of canceling Prajwal's diplomatic passport under the provisions of the Passport Act 1967 as well as the relevant rules.

If the passport is cancelled, Prajwal's stay abroad would be illegal and he may face legal action by the relevant authorities of the country where he is living, said a person familiar with the matter.

On Wednesday, Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah wrote a second letter to Prime Minister Narendra Modi, urging him to take "prompt and necessary" action to cancel Prajwal's diplomatic passport.The Chief Minister had sent a similar letter to the Prime Minister on May 1.

The Special Investigation Team (SIT) formed by the Karnataka government to probe sexual abuse allegations against Prajwal had written to the Ministry of External Affairs to cancel his diplomatic passport after a local court issued an arrest warrant against him.

Following the SIT's request, a 'Blue Corner Notice' seeking information about Revanna's whereabouts has already been issued by Interpol.

Earlier this month, External Affairs Ministry spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal said Prajwal traveled to Germany on a diplomatic passport and he did not seek political clearance for his travel.

Jaiswal had said, "No political clearance was neither sought nor issued from the Ministry of External Affairs regarding the visit of the said MP to Germany."

"Apparently, no visa note was even issued," the External Affairs Ministry spokesperson said.Diplomatic passport holders do not require a visa to travel to Germany. The Ministry has not issued visa notes for any other country."

Prajwal's father and former Karnataka minister HD Revanna was also booked for sexual harassment and criminal intimidation. He is currently out on bail.
