Jabalpur: A man was arrested in Madhya Pradesh's Jabalpur for allegedly killing his wife and then telling police that she was strangled by motorcycle-riding robbers. An official gave this information on Monday.

Jabalpur Superintendent of Police Aditya Pratap Singh said that accused Shubham Chaudhary (26) was having an affair with a woman, which was opposed by his wife Reshma (25).

Shubham had told the police that he and his wife were attacked by robbers riding a motorcycle when the couple were driving in Madhotal area on Saturday night.

She had told the police that when the robbers tried to snatch her purse and jewellery, they strangled her with a saree.

"When we checked the CCTV footage of the area, we did not find the four-wheeler on which they were travelling. Local residents also denied knowledge of any such incident," the SP said.

He told that during interrogation, Shubham confessed to killing his wife by strangulating her.

"Based on his interrogation, we also arrested his friends Prahlad Singh Thaku (27), Anurag Kushwaha (21), Shibbu (24)," the officer said.
