New Delhi: It's been a "lovely journey" to go from being a winner to now being a host, says Vir Das as he prepares to host the International Emmy Awards a year after winning a trophy for his Netflix special.

Das, who will become the first Indian to host the awards, said that although the news was announced recently, he had known about it for three months.

In 2023, Das won the International Emmy Award for his Netflix stand-up special "Landing" in the best comedy category. He was also nominated in the same category in 2021.

"When they asked me, I was very flattered and immediately said, 'Yes.' It's a beautiful journey to go from a nominee to a winner to a host. What a crazy climb in four years. I'm just so grateful for opportunity. That's all I'm thinking about right now," Das said in an interview.

The actor, who is currently enjoying the success of his streaming show “Call Me Bae” on Prime Video, said he is excited and nervous to host the show, known for recognizing the best of international television.

"It's been a good week, knock on wood. The show ('Call Me Bae') I was on has gotten a good response and I'm excited about performing. The fact that I'm doing the show (Emmys) "It's for us celebrate it, but I will celebrate it personally once I'm done and done a good job. So, it's great to have the job, but I still have to do it," Das said.

When asked if the pressure of hosting the awards gala ceremony is similar to what he goes through while preparing for his acts or stand-up shows, Das said it is significantly greater.

"I only have eight to ten minutes for the opening monologue. I'll have to get it right. I think it'll be two weeks after the US election, so I'll have to think about that too. There will be a lot of nominees, a lot of pictures and you'll have to talk about it. It's an interesting piece of writing where the tone is very, very specific," he said.
