Local meteorological department director Mukhtar Ahmed told IANS that the maximum temperature in Srinagar was 35.6 degrees Celsius, which is 6 degrees above normal.

"This is the highest maximum temperature so far this season, the last time Srinagar recorded a maximum temperature of 37 degrees Celsius was on 9 July 1999. The maximum temperature of 35 degrees Celsius was recorded in Srinagar on 1 July 2005 and 10 July 2006. The highest maximum temperature ever recorded in Srinagar was 38.3 degrees Celsius,'' the Meteorological Department director said.

He also said that the maximum temperature in Kokernag tourist report in Anantnag district was 33.3 degrees Celsius, the highest ever recorded there.

"The maximum temperature recorded at Kokernag on July 8, 1993 was 33 degrees Celsius, which was the highest till date," he said.

The Meteorological Department has predicted wet weather from Thursday evening.

"On July 4, isolated light to moderate rain/thundershowers are likely at many places over Jammu division. On July 5 and 6, intermittent moderate rain is likely at most places over Jammu and Kashmir. There is a possibility of heavy rain with intermittent light to moderate rain/thunder at some places on July 7 and hot and humid weather with isolated heavy rain in Jammu division on July 8 to 10. “There will be rain/thundershowers at some places in Uttarakhand during late night/morning and at some places in Kashmir division.”

The Meteorological Department has also issued an advisory warning that there is a possibility of flash floods, landslides/mud falls and stone falls at some sensitive places from July 4 to July 6 and water logging in low-lying areas.
