Guwahati: The political fate of 47 candidates on four Lok Sabha seats will be decided on Tuesday when the third and final phase of elections is held in the state.

Voting in four constituencies Kokrajhar (ST), Dhubri, Barpeta and Guwahati will begin at 7 am and end at 5 pm.

All eyes will be on the coveted Guwahati seat where both BJP and Congress have fielded women candidates in Bijuli Kalita Medhi and Meera Borthakur Goswami respectively.

Other prominent candidates are AIUDF chief Badruddin Ajmal who is contesting from Dhubri for the fourth consecutive time, Congress MLA Rakibu Hussain, eight-time Assam Gana Parishad MLA Phanibhushan Chaudhary and CPI(M) MLA Manoranjan Talukdar.

Maximum number of 14 candidates are in the fray in Barpeta and minimum number of eight candidates in Guwahati, while six women are contesting in the final phase.The BJP has fielded only one candidate for the Guwahati seat in this phase, while its alliance partner AGP is contesting from two seats - Dhubri and Barpeta - and UPPL in Kokrajhar.

Congress and Voters Party International (VPI) are contesting on all four seats, while BPF, Trinamool Congress, Bharatiya Gana Parishad, SUCI (C) and Republican Party of India (Athawale) are contesting on two seats each.

AIUDF, CPI(M), Gana Suraksha Party, Hindu Samaj Party, Assam Jan Morcha National Road Map Party of India, Rashtriya Ulema Council, Ekam Sanatan Bhara Dal and Bahujan Maha Party are contesting from one seat each, while 16 independents are contesting from one seat each. are also in the field. the fray.

A total of 82.11 lakh voters, including 41.27 males, 40.84 females and 11 third gender voters, will be eligible to exercise their franchise at 9,516 polling stations.Voting will be held amid tight security and 60 companies of security forces will be deployed in the five constituencies.

In BJP-held Guwahati, there is a direct contest between BJP's Bijuli Kalita Medhi and Congress candidate Meira Borthakur Goswami, who is contesting the Lok Sabha elections for the first time.

In Barpeta, the contest is expected to be triangular between NDA ally Asom Gana Parishad (AGP) candidate Phanibhushan Chaudhary, CPI(M)'s Manoranjan Talukada and Congress' Deep Bayan.

In Dhubri, 13 candidates are in the fray with AIUDF strongman Badruddin Ajmal, who is contesting for the fourth time, a triangular contest with Congress MLA Rakibu Hussain and NDA partner AGP's Zaved Islam.

In Kokrajhar (ST), a triangular contest is also likely between UPPL's ​​Jayant Basumatary, Congress's Gargen Musahari and Bodoland People's Front (BPF's) Kampa Borgoyeri.Sitting independent Kokrajhar MP Naba Kumar Saraniya, who has been representing the constituency reserved for Scheduled Tribes since 2014, had filed his nomination papers, which were rejected after his Scheduled Tribe (ST) status was revoked.

Assam Chief Electoral Officer Anurag Goyal said that all arrangements have been completed to conduct the voting in a free, fair, secure and peaceful manner. In the first phase of voting held on April 19, 78.25 per cent voters exercised their franchise to decide the fate of 35 candidates for Kaziranga, Jorhat, Dibrugarh, Sonitpur and Lakhimpur constituencies.

In the second phase held on April 26, 81.17 per cent voters decided the fate of 61 candidates from Karimganj, Silchar (SC), Dip (ST), Nagaon and Darrang-Udalguri.

In the outgoing Lok Sabha, BJP had nine, Congress three, AIUDF and independents one seat each from the state.
