Rudraprayag (Uttarakhand) [India], The doors of Kedarnath Dham, one of the oldest and most sacred pilgrimage sites in the country, were thrown open for devotees on Friday. The doors were opened after some interval with rituals and chanting of mantras. Six months, including the peak winter phase, slogans of 'Har Har Mahadev' echoed through the crowd of devotees gathered for the ceremony, as the doors were opened for shlokas (hymns) before the formal inauguration. The doors of Kedarnath, Gangotri and Yamunotri were opened on Friday on the auspicious occasion of Akshaya Tritiya, while the doors of Badrinath Dham will be opened on May 12. The high altitude temples are closed for six months every year, opening in summer (April or May) and closing at the beginning of winter (October or November). Char Dham Yatra holds deep spiritual significance in Hinduism. This journey usually takes place from April-May to October-November. It is believed that one should complete the Char Dham Yatra in a clockwise direction. Therefore, the pilgrimage starts from Yamunotri, moves towards Gangotri, stops at Kedarnath, and finally ends at Badrinath.The journey can be completed by road or air (helicopter services are available). According to the Uttarakhand Tourism official website, some devotees also undertake Do Dham Yatra or pilgrimage to the two temples, Kedarnath and Badrinath.
