Residents and travelers of the area accused the woman of kidnapping the child.

Passengers said that they saw a child hidden in a woman's bag in the local train going from Duttpukur to Sealdah under Bangaon division of North 24 Parganas.

When the train reached Birati station, passengers caught the woman and handed her and the child over to the railway police.

Passengers told police and media that the woman's body language was suspicious.

Their suspicions increased further when she refused to answer questions from passengers traveling in the ladies compartment and tried to walk away.

“As soon as the train reached Birati station, he tried to run away leaving the child behind. But we overpowered him and handed him over to the railway police,” said a passenger.

However, the matter did not end there as people started protesting demanding a thorough investigation into the matter and some of them even blocked the railway track, leading to a ruckus.

However, after the intervention of the police, people withdrew their protest and the situation had become normal by the time this news was written.
