Indore: Another ten children from a shelter home here were admitted to hospital with suspected food poisoning on Wednesday, taking the number of children under treatment at the private institution to 48, officials said.

A senior doctor said that worms have been found in the stool of some children admitted to the hospital but the exact reason behind their illness is not yet known.

District Collector Ashish Singh had earlier said that four children of Shri Yugpurush Dham Bal Ashram located in Malharganj area died on Monday and Tuesday due to infection caused by suspected food poisoning, while another child died on Sunday after suffering a seizure. He died after.

Superintendent of the Ashram, Dr. Preeti Malpani said that a total of 48 children of the Ashram suffering from vomiting and diarrhea are undergoing treatment at the Government Chacha Nehru Children's Hospital.

"Seven of them are in the intensive care unit (ICU). The condition of three of them is relatively serious," he said.

Dr. Malpani said that in the general laboratory test, worms were found in the stool of the children, but the situation will be clear only after the stool culture report comes.

He said that doctors examined about 150 other children living in the ashram and their condition is fine. There are a total of 204 inmates in the institution, including orphans and people suffering from mental illnesses.

Collector Singh said that a team from the district administration will keep an eye on the health of all the children of the shelter home for the next 48 hours.

He said the source of the suspected food poisoning would be known only after receiving reports of food and ration samples.

The Collector said that a high level committee of the administration is conducting a detailed investigation into the operation of the shelter home.
