Ronaldo, who ended his second stint with United bitterly after public differences with Ten Hague, expressed his doubts about the team's prospects in a recent interview.

The Portuguese forward, who left Old Trafford after a dramatic and controversial exit, said United need a complete overhaul to be competitive again. He criticized the current state of the club, suggesting that both the Premier League and Champions League are out of their reach under the current setup.

Ten Hag, who has faced his own set of challenges since taking the reins at Old Trafford, immediately addressed Ronaldo's comments. In his response, he downplayed the significance of Ronaldo's comments, focusing on the team's immediate challenges rather than the former player's opinion.

"He said United can't win the Premier League. That's too far from Manchester; everyone can give their opinion – that's fine," Ten Hag said.

United's form has been really inconsistent, with Ten Hag's side struggling to find their rhythm this season. They have won only five of their last 16 Premier League games heading into their match against Southampton this Saturday, a statistic that also includes a disappointing start to the current campaign with two defeats in their opening three games.
