New Delhi, the national capital, experienced a muggy day on Thursday and moderate rain is predicted the next day, the weather office said.

According to the India Meteorological Department, the maximum temperature was 38.8 degrees Celsius, which is three degrees above the season's average. Humidity during the day ranged between 56 percent and 91 percent.

The minimum temperature of the city was recorded at 27.2 degrees Celsius. 15 mm rainfall was recorded in Delhi from 8.30 am on Wednesday to 8.30 am on Thursday.

The weather department has predicted generally cloudy sky and moderate rain on Friday. The maximum and minimum temperatures are likely to be around 36 and 28 degrees Celsius respectively.

According to the Central Pollution Control Board, the air quality index (AQI) was recorded in the moderate category with a reading of 114 at 6 pm.

An AQI between zero and 50 is considered good, between 51 and 100 satisfactory, between 101 and 200 moderate, between 201 and 300 poor, between 301 and 400 very poor, and between 401 and 500 severe.
