Hyderabad, Telangana Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy on Tuesday said that Telugu film industry bigwigs, who seek permission from the government to increase ticket prices when a big-budget film releases, are not complying their social responsibility to create awareness about the menace of drugs and cybercrimes.

He directed officials to set a precondition for filmmakers to provide a one- or two-minute-long video to the government to promote awareness about drugs and cybercrime when they approached the government to increase ticket prices.

The video could be made with the same cast that acted in the film for which permission is sought to increase ticket prices, she said.

It is a routine practice in Telangana and neighboring Andhra Pradesh to increase ticket prices, with government permission, for a few days after the release of the film.

Revanth Reddy, who spoke after stopping a fleet of vehicles of the state anti-narcotics office and cyber security office, thanked megastar Chiranjeevi for handing over a video to the government against the problem of narcotic substances.

The Chief Minister also asked the police commissioners of Cyberabad and Rachakonda to submit a request to filmmakers to provide a short video to create awareness against narcotics and cyber crimes when seeking permission for film shooting.

He said that he agrees that films are made with an investment of crores of rupees, but drugs are a social problem, she said. Filmmakers should give back to society, she said.

He directed that cinema hall owners should screen short films for free before starting the film screening to promote awareness against drugs and cyber crimes.

Highlighting the menace of drugs, he said a person dies in a murder but families suffer if a person is addicted to drugs.

Stating that the state government is committed to combating the scourge of narcotics, Revanth Reddy urged the staff of the state anti-narcotics office and cyber crime office to control crimes effectively.

It is the responsibility of the government to ensure departmental promotions to officials who perform their duties efficiently, he said.

The police should instill fear among cybercriminals and those involved in supplying drugs to carry out their activities in Telangana, she added.
