The couple, identified as Thikka Sushmita alias Chaithe and Madakam Dhula alias Dhula, surrendered before Karimnagar Police Commissioner Abhishek Mohanty. A reward of Rs 4 lakh each was placed on his head.

"A Maoist couple surrendered today. They were attracted to the Maoist ideology. They decided to come out of it because they found it difficult. They found that the movement was weakening...They thought that the mainstream society would accept them. Will accept the matter." Karimnagar Police Commissioner Abhishek Mohanty, while speaking to ANI, said that it is better for this.

Thikka Sushmita hails from Hasanparthi village in Hanamkonda district of Telangana, while her husband Madakam Dhula is a native of Sukma district of Chhattisgarh.

They joined the Maoist group in 2015, later getting married in 2020. But ultimately, he did not find the Maoist principles suitable for him and decided to surrender.

Maoism is a form of communism. It is a theory of seizing state power through a combination of armed rebellion, mass mobilization, and strategic alliance. The Maoists also use propaganda and disinformation against state institutions as other components of their insurgency doctrine.
