Hyderabad: Telangana Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy on Monday said a skills university will be set up in the state to upgrade the skills of youth to improve employment opportunities.

Reddy, who held meetings with officials and industry representatives on skill development, urged them to submit a report with proposals for setting up a skills university a day or two before the start of the budget session of the Assembly later this month.

An official release quoted him as saying that the government will take an appropriate decision within 24 hours of examining the proposals.

It said the chief minister and officials discussed the formation of a board for the proposed skills university and decided to form a temporary board.

The Chief Minister asked the officials to prepare a blueprint of the courses, curriculum, industrial needs and employment opportunities for the youth to be offered in the university.

It was decided in the meeting that the Industries Department should coordinate with the Education Department and prepare an action plan for setting up skill universities with industry leaders.

Other important decisions include playing a key role in assessing the demand by the industry, curriculum development, skill training as well as offering internships and facilitating necessary regulatory approvals by the government, providing land and buildings.

The CM also directed officials to examine whether the skills university should be established in partnership between the government and the private sector or whether the government alone should take the responsibility, the release said.
