A total of 213 convicted prisoners lodged in the jails of Hyderabad, Telangana were granted premature release by the state government.

The Telangana Prisons Department organized a counseling program and job fair for released prisoners on the premises of the Central Prison, Cherlapally, here on Wednesday, an official release said.

It said the prisoners were given counseling on how to lead a useful and productive life after release.

Addressing the gathering on the occasion, Director General of Telangana Prisons and Correctional Services Soumya Mishra said that it is a very important day for the Telangana Prisons Department, which has achieved the important milestone of releasing 213 convicted prisoners from different jails. He said that the relatives and family members of the released prisoners had given their representation in the 'Praja Vani' program (a grievance redressal meeting) requesting for premature release of the convicted prisoners as they have been lodged in jails for many years.

Later a decision on premature release of prisoners was taken by the State Government and accordingly a Government order was issued to release 213 convicted prisoners – 205 life convicts, eight non-life prisoners, which included 35 women prisoners.

Soumya Mishra also distributed job offer letters at "My Nation Filling Station" to 67 released male convicted prisoners and three female released convicted prisoners, the release said.
