Hyderabad, Telangana Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy on Thursday urged prominent industrialists and companies to participate in the 'Indian Youth Skills University' being set up in the state.

Reddy, who met university board chairman Anand Mahindra, its members and also other industrialists, said the state government has allocated Rs 100 crore and 150 acres of land for the proposed institution.

He urged industrialists in the state to get involved in the skill university and contribute to its corpus fund, an official statement said.

While many youth remain unemployed even after completing their postgraduate or even engineering studies, private companies, on the other hand, face a shortage of manpower equipped with employable skills, he said.

He set out to establish the university to provide skills that would improve job opportunities for young people, he said.

Reddy expressed confidence that Anand Mahindra would enrich the university with skills.

The CM also said that his government is setting up an 'Indian Youth Sports University' to train youth with the aim of winning gold medals in the 2028 Olympics.

He urged industrialists to also participate in the development of the proposed sports university.

Anand Mahindra appreciated the CM's idea and vision of equipping the youth of Telangana with employable skills, the statement said.

This led him to agree to be the president of the university council, Anand Mahindra said.

The statement quotes him as saying that there is vision in the Chief Minister's idea of training youth in skill development as governments generally give more importance to subsidies and attractive schemes.

Telangana houses a large American consulate and a large number of youth go to the United States from the state, he said.

As such, there is no doubt that the State can emerge as a destination to supply skilled manpower to the world, he said.

The university skill board decided to start the courses from this year, the statement added.
