LONDON - A 17-year-old boy has been detained after two women were injured in an incident with a "bladed weapon" at a gurudwara in Kent, south-east England, local police said on Friday.

Kent Police said its officers were called to the Siri Guru Nanak Darbar Gurdwara in Gravesend on Thursday evening to investigate reports that a male had entered the place of worship and attempted to attack people inside.

“It was reported that a person had entered the venue and attempted to attack the attendees armed with a sharp weapon. No one was seriously injured during the incident, but two women required medical attention for cuts and bruises, Kent Police said in a statement.

Authorities arrested the teenage boy on suspicion of attempted murder and a religiously aggravated public order offense and recovered a sharp weapon from the scene. Police described it as an "isolated incident" and said no one else was being sought at this time in connection with the investigation into the attack.

Detective Superintendent Ian Dyball, of Kent Police, said, "We understand the community's concerns regarding the incidents at the Gurdwara, however we are treating this as an isolated incident."

"Patrols will remain in the area for reassurance and we thank the community for their continued support and assistance," he said.
