New Delhi [India], The All India Football Federation (AIFF) has announced that Team India will participate in a Tri-Nation friendly tournament in Vietnam in October.

The AIFF said the Blue Tigers will face hosts Vietnam and Lebanon in the tri-nation friendly tournament.

"The senior Indian men's team will play a Tri-Nation friendly tournament in Vietnam during the October 2024 FIFA window. Apart from India and hosts Vietnam, the third team in the field is Lebanon. Both Vietnam (116) and Lebanon (117) are ranked second," the AIFF said. India (124) is ahead in the latest FIFA rankings.

At present, in the latest FIFA rankings, both Vietnam and Lebanon are ahead of India who are at 124th position. Vietnam is ranked 116th and Lebanon 117th in the chart.

The first match of the tournament will be played between Vietnam and India on 9 October. The second match will be played between India and Lebanon on 12 October. At the same time, the last match will be between Vietnam and Lebanon on October 15.

Earlier, India's campaign in qualification for the FIFA World Cup 2026 ended on a controversial note as Qatar won 2-1 in their World Cup Qualifiers second round Group A encounter at the Jassim Bin Hamad Stadium in Doha on Tuesday. However, the match attracted many highlights as Qatar were awarded a goal despite the ball leaving the field of play.

India maintained the lead till the 72nd minute of the game but Qatar leveled the game after a controversial equalizing goal. Youssef Ayman found the back of the net after the ball went out of play. He scored another goal in the final minutes of the game to secure a 2–1 win and end Igor Stimac's run in the qualification race.
