New Delhi, Former Rajya Sabha MP Kanakamedala Ravindra Kumar on Friday complained to the Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) that the ruling YSRC government in Andhra Pradesh is allegedly tapping the phone of TDP national general secretary Nara Lokesh using Pegasus software.

Apple has issued a security alert to Nara Lokesh. He said in a letter to the CEC that he had received a similar alert in March also.

Kumar said some police officers "at the behest of the state government" are allegedly engaged in "unauthorized phone tapping".

He alleged that state Director General of Police Rajendranath Reddy and intelligence chief PSR Anjaneyulu "have become supporters of the YSRCP and are resorting to unethical and illegal acts to jeopardize the prospects of ND alliance partners in the upcoming elections..." .

Kumar said, "It is now time that the ECI, New Delhi initiates action against these officials and appoint neutral and reputed officials to their posts and ensure free and fair elections."

Elections are to be held on May 13 for the state's 175-member Assembly and 25 Lok Sabha seats.
