Palwal, Police said that on Wednesday night, a taxi driver's car went out of control on the Palwal-Aligarh route and fell into the Agra canal, due to which he drowned.

The car was recovered on Thursday morning after 12 hours of a long rescue operation and police recovered the body of the driver from the canal, he said.

According to the police, the deceased has been identified as Kamal (25), a resident of Islamabad village in Palwal district.

According to the police, the car went out of control and fell into the canal while passing through Kithwadi village at around 7.30 pm on Wednesday evening.

A joint team of police and fire brigade started the rescue operation and the body was recovered by the police around 8:00 am on Thursday. Police said that the rescue team also took the car out of the canal.

A senior police officer said, "There was only the driver in the car whose body has been recovered. We handed over the body to his family after postmortem today."
