Ranipet police said all the firecrackers kept for the last rites of K. Saraswati Ammal (95) burst after sparks from the firecrackers released by family members fell on the reserved firecrackers.
On receiving information from the residents, fire brigade personnel and police reached there and a six-member team of fire brigade personnel brought the fire under control.
The injured were taken to Ranipet Government Hospital on Waljah Street by fire brigade personnel and police. Chief Medical Officer of Ranipei Government Hospital J. Usha Nandini told IANS that the injured suffered 10 to 30 per cent injuries and all of them have been admitted to the intensive care unit of the hospital.
Ranipet Town Police has registered the case.
District Collector Valarmathi and District Superintendent of Police Kira Shruti visited the injured in the hospital.
