Sivagangai (Tamil Nadu) [India], A 30-year-old man has been arrested in Sivagangai for illegally storing explosive material in a house, Sivagangai district police said on Monday.

Police said the accused, identified as S Aravindan of Arasaneri Keelamedu, was detained on Saturday evening after explosives kept in the old motor room detonated due to hot weather.

The explosion caused partial damage to the room, prompting the Sivagangai Town Police to investigate the incident after receiving information from the public.

Police interrogated and later registered a case against the accused under the Explosives Act. He was sent to judicial custody.

Investigation is underway to determine whether the accused had stockpiled explosives and planned to make country-made bombs. Samples were collected from the spot and sent for forensic examination. Police said the explosion occurred due to extreme heat in the area.
