CHENNAI: The Tamil Nadu government on Friday called on people to donate valuable documents, manuscripts and other evidence in their possession depicting the contribution of Tamils ​​to the Indian freedom struggle to be displayed at the Independence Day Museum to be built on its premises. Humayun Mahal, located opposite Marina Beach, has been selected to build the museum over an area of ​​80,000 square feet, the government said in a release.

This Indo-Saracenic structure, built in 1770, was damaged in a fire accident in 2019 and was later renovated.

"The contribution of Tamils ​​in the freedom struggle is great. The Chief Minister (MK Stalin) announced during the 75th Independence Day celebrations that the museum will be set up to commemorate the sacrifices and strong participation of the people of Tamil Nadu in the freedom struggle," the release said " ,

The release said that people from all walks of life can contribute to the construction of this museum and from them record manuscripts, newspapers (of that time), prison tokens, charkhas, copper plates, INA uniforms, INA daks.
