CHENNAI: The Tamil Nadu government on Friday highlighted various initiatives aimed at the welfare of the Adi Dravida community in the state, including housing schemes and measures for education.

The government has launched a scheme worth Rs 100 crore, named after Dr. Brabedkar and launched last year to promote entrepreneurial ventures of the ADI Dravidian community, and around 2,200 people have benefited so far, an official release here said.

The scheme included 35 percent subsidy on total investment and six percent interest subsidy to entrepreneurs.

Under a housing scheme named after social reformer Ayathidas Pandithar, which envisages an investment of Rs 1,000 crore over five years, work is underway for more than Rs 230 crore estimated for the current year.

Several other initiatives including education assistance to Adi Dravidian youth, incentives for those studying select courses abroad and many more were part of Chief Minister MK Stalin's efforts to ensure the welfare of members of the Adi Dravidian community. .
