Chennai, TAFE Motors and Tractors Ltd, the subsidiary of leading tractor manufacturer TAFE Ltd, has signed a pact with German internal combustion engine manufacturer DEUTZ AG to jointly manufacture the range of DEUTZ engines in the country.

TAFE (Tractors and Agricultural Equipment) Motors and Tractors Ltd is a subsidiary of the world's third largest tractor manufacturer and TAFE Ltd, based in the city.

"DEUTZ signs a cooperation with TAFE, which will allow DEUTZ to expand its business in India. As a start of a long-term cooperation, TAFE Motors would manufacture up to 30,000 DEUTZ engines in 50-75 hp and 75-100 hp under license to increase and complement the wide range of engines manufactured by the group to emissions standards," the company said in a statement here on Tuesday.

TAFE Motors and Tractors Ltd would produce engines to suit newer applications in the Indian market as well as DEUTZ requirements.

The engines would be produced at TAFE Motors' manufacturing facility in Alwar, Rajasthan. The manufacturing plant currently produces diesel engines and generator sets in the range of 5 to 125 kVA which are marketed as Eicher engines and TMTL engines.

DEUTZ would use the manufacturing base for overseas markets, including the Asia Pacific region and neighboring countries.

"The strategic cooperation with TAFE Motors guarantees DEUTZ access to growing markets with great potential and long-term prospects," said DEUTZ CEO Sebastian C Shulte.

"It also allows us to continue producing at competitive costs in the future and become less dependent on the existing supplier landscape, which is becoming increasingly challenging due to technological change and geopolitics," Shulte added.

The cooperation between the two companies provides DEUTZ with the opportunity to expand its supplier base, as well as ensuring more efficient and resilient production. The cooperation would also reduce dependence on supply chains in geopolitically tense regions, the company said.

"This strategic cooperation between TAFE Motors and DEUTZ will be mutually beneficial as it will offer access to shared resources and technologies to produce engines that complement the existing range of TAFE Motors and the Group to meet the demand of domestic and international markets," Sandeep said. Sinha, CEO of TAFE Motors and Tractors Ltd.

"This cooperation will also offer DEUTZ access to high quality engines at the best cost for new applications in the relevant Indian and overseas markets," added Sinha.
