Rohit and Kohli are India's top-order batsmen along with Yashasvi Jaiswal and Suryakumar Yadav in the 15-man World Cup squad. India have been placed in Group A in the competition along with arch-rivals Pakistan, Ireland, Canada and co-hosts USA.

They will begin their campaign against Ireland on June 5 at the Nassau Count International Cricket Stadium in New York. "For me, Virat Kohli opens. Who goes behind? Rohit Sharma bats at number three. He gets little support and doesn't understand the game, there's a lot going on in his mind as a captain."

“If you have Virat in your team, you know consistency is what you will get, so, might as well use that. He is best at the top and the powerplay allows him to survive. When there are 20-30 on the board and then the spin comes, as he stays longer, he gets better. It has always been my preference that if Virat is in this team, he should open,” Jadeja told JioCinema, the official streaming partner of IPL 2024.Vice-captain Hardik Pandya has been in poor form with both bat and ball while captaining Mumbai Indians in IPL 2024, but Jadeja feels the fast bowling all-rounder will do well in the T20 World Cup.

"The spotlight is on him for obvious reasons. He is a special player, a rare thing you get in our country where someone who bowls seam-up and with his batting can make me a place in the team. Not in selection form , there is no doubt about it.

“It depends on how you want to play. This is one of the things I look at this tea and think is that they don't have many options. You have established players in your team, everyone is very strong in terms of their numbers and the level at which they play. It all depends on what Rohit thinks."

India have opted to take a spin-heavy bowling lineup which includes Ravindra Jadeja, Axar Patel, Kuldeep Yadav and Yuzvendra Chahal. Former India batsman Suresh Raina believes that Chahal and Kuldeep can be fielded together in an Indian team during the World Cup.

“I think both Kuldeep and Chahal should play.I think our X-factor is Chahal. Their partnership will be useful because you are playing on wickets where the spinners need to put pressure. If Chahal can't do it, Kuldeep can. If Kuldi can do it, Chahal will do it," Raina said.
