BRIDGETOWN [Barbados], Australia wicket-keeper batsman Matthew Wade has been given an official reprimand for breaching Level 1 of the ICC Code of Conduct for "showing disagreement with an umpire's decision" during the match against England at the Kensington Oval. World Cup 2024.

Wade was given an 'official reprimand' and one demerit point.

According to the official statement of the International Cricket Council (ICC), the incident took place during Australia's T20 World Cup Group B match against England in Barbados in which the Australian team won the match by 36 runs.

This incident happened in the 18th over of Australia's innings. Wade played the ball from leg spinner Adil Rashid back to the bowler but he expected the umpire to call it a 'dead ball'. When this did not happen, Wade argued with the umpires over the decision.

The wicket-keeper batsman was found guilty of breaching Article 2.8 of the ICC Code of Conduct for Players and Player Support Personnel, which relates to "showing disagreement with an umpire's decision during an international match".

In addition, one demerit point was added to Wade's disciplinary record, for whom this was the first offense in a 24-month period.

Wade pleaded guilty and accepted the sanction proposed by Andy Pycroft of the Emirates ICC Elite Panel of Match Referees, so there was no need for a formal hearing.

"On-field umpires Nitin Menon and Joel Wilson, third umpire Asif Yaqoob and fourth umpire Jayaraman Madangopal were charged," the ICC said in an official statement.

Level 1 breaches include a minimum penalty of an official reprimand, a maximum penalty of 50 percent of the player's match fee and one or two demerit points.
