DALLAS [USA]: Navneet Dhaliwal and Nicholas Kirton scored half-centuries as Canada posted 194/5 against USA in the opening match of the T20 World Cup 2024 at the Grand Prairie Stadium in Dallas on Sunday.

After winning the toss, America decided to bowl first, however their decision did not go in their favor.

For Canada, Aaron Johnson (23 runs on 16 balls, 5 fours) and Navneet Dhaliwal (61 runs on 44 balls, 6 fours and 3 sixes) opened and made a partnership of 43 runs.

Harmeet Singh got the first breakthrough of the match in the sixth over when the American bowler removed Johnson from the crease.

Pargat Singh (5 runs off 7 balls), who came in place of Johnson, could not leave his mark in the game and was run out by Jesse Singh and Monank Patel in the 8th over.

However, the innings of Nicholas Kirton (51 runs from 31 balls, 3 fours and 2 sixes) in the middle overs was very important for Canada. He played with a strike rate of 164.52.

Dhaliwal's shaky innings had to end after he was dismissed by Corey Anderson in the 15th over, with the Canadian batsman playing at a strike rate of 138.64.

Kirton tried to control the match, however after the dismissal of Dhaliwal, the middle order lost its wicket to Ali Khan in the 18th over.

In the end, explosive innings in the death overs from Shreyas Movva (32 runs in 16 balls, 2 fours and 2 sixes) and Dilpreet Singh (11 runs in 5 balls, 1 six and 1 four) took Canada to a total of 194. /5 Against America.
