Chennai, Integrated steel and power company Suryadev Alloys & Power has introduced a new range of TMT bars equipped with anti-rust properties for the construction sector, the company said.
Suryadev Fe550D CRS TMT Bars with a blend of copper, chromium and nickel have been unveiled in the backdrop of diverse climate posing a tough challenge for the country.
The company said in a statement on Sunday, citing a study, that corrosion rates in coastal areas could be four times higher than inland areas. This issue is a significant concern across the country and is estimated to cost the economy 3-4 percent of GDP annually.

Suryadev has undertaken several infrastructure projects for Chennai Metro Rail Limited, Bengaluru-Chennai Expressway and Chennai Peripheral Ring Road, among others.
The company has a facility at New Gummidipoondi in neighboring Tiruvallu district with an annual finished steel capacity of 6 lakh tonnes, the company said.
